
Uniform Legal Services Regulation at the Legal Services Council
Stephen is currently acting CEO and Commissioner for Uniform Legal Services Regulation at the Legal Services Council. The Council monitors the overall operation of the Legal Profession Uniform Framework, which covers solicitors and barristers in NSW, Victoria and Western Australia.
Prior to his role at the Council, Stephen worked as a solicitor in Australia and the UK, as an Australian Youth Ambassador, and for the last decade in senior roles in Government advising ministers on law reform, policy, regulation and interjurisdictional negotiation.
During his time in Government, some key projects Stephen led include national reforms to defamation law, reforms to civil liability following the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, reforms to child protection law following the Family is Culture review, and legal profession regulation.
Stephen has a law and commerce degree from UNSW.
