Gareth Smith

Gareth has been with the New Zealand Law Society Te Kāhui Ture o Aotearoa since 2014. His roles have included Solicitor and Chief Legal Counsel prior to his current appointment as General Manager, Professional Standards in 2022. Gareth is responsible for overseeing the Law Society’s regulatory work, including the Lawyers Complaints Service, Registry and Inspectorate teams.

Prior to joining the Law Society, Gareth worked for another professional regulator in the UK. Gareth has both Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts degrees.
